All The [Trek] 93 – The Vengeance Factor

This Trek Tuesday: MURDER. The favored pastime of space dwellers.

Episode 57: The Vengeance Factor

November 20th, 1989

The Enterprise plays host to a leader brokering a peace treatise in order to cut down on old-fashioned space ultraviolence. The space pirates they’re trying to parlay with aren’t exactly interested…

"Thanks for this peace offering I'm sure our fire will love it."

“Thanks for this peace offering I’m sure our fire will love it.” – Fake Kurt Russell

And to no one’s surprise, Riker is VERY open to parLAYing with the peacemaker’s servant.

Don't give me that look. It was a good pun.

A whole lot of complicated political shit has gone down over the past several generations, and tensions are running high. People are also dropping dead. From a synthesized disease that only targets very specific people from a very specific bloodline. The only person in proximity at each murder is THE SERVANT!! In fact, she’s committed every murder of any person involved with the bloodline for the past FIFTY YEARS!! Because…vengeance and mutation?

Just like most of my dates, no one leaves this episode fully satisfied and several innocent-ish people perish.

Overall Rating: (4/5)

Overall - 4 out of 5

The overall story was weakened by the fact that the assassin genetically mutated to live longer. If that is a legitimate option in-universe, then it’s the sort of thing everyone would be exploiting the hell out of already. Unless, you know, there are some space wizards pulling these party tricks out of their asses (and NO, the Q don’t count). Otherwise I like the story, the double-dealing was well played and the production value was killer.

But really: What’s the matter casting department, you couldn’t get Kurt Russell?
