Educating [Geeks] S3 BONUS – Friday the 13th

On a special bonus episode of the podcast, Devon and Megan are joined by guest host Andrea to give Megan an education on the 1980 slasher classic Friday the 13th. Andrea tells us what she loves about the camera work and cinematography, Devon reminisces about watching scary movies as a kid, and Megan might like scary movies after all. The trio also comes up with a drinking game for the movie, shares some fun adult beverages, and gets a little too excited about characters wearing raincoats.

*SPOILER ALERT* We talk about Friday the 13th in its entirety and discuss a major spoiler, so if you haven’t seen it yet, you should celebrate Halloween and watch the movie before you listen to the podcast. We also talk about some minor spoilers from the other movies in the Friday the 13th series.

Friday the 13th Drinking Game

Take a drink if…

  • Someone says “Camp Crystal Lake”
  • Someone calls Camp Crystal Lake “Camp Blood”
  • Someone mentions Friday the 13th
  • The camera perspective is from the killer’s point of view
  • Someone dies and the effects are really cheesy or just plain bad
  • A character leaves other people behind to go somewhere by themselves
  • Someone does something that you should never do in horror movie
  • Someone is in their underwear or swimming suit. If the character is wearing their underwear with a rain coat, take a shot and try not to get too excited
  • You hear the iconic”ki ki ki ma ma ma” sound

Signature Cocktails

The Bloody Sunrise

  • Tequila
  • Blood orange liquor

You put the tequila in the blood orange liquor and drink ’em bot’ up.

The Crystal Lake Surprise

Ingredients:
2 measures of white rum
A quarter measure of blue curaçao
1 measure of  orange juice
half a measure of lime juice
1 packet of red Jell-o (Vodka is optional)

Make the jelly/Jell-o by following the instructions on the pack. If desired, add vodka. Set mixture in the freezer. Just before the jelly sets, stir it up with a hand whisk. Let it set for at least 5 minutes. This will be the “surprise” at the end of the drink.

Mix (shake) the rum, blue curaçao and juices with a cocktail shaker over ice. Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass. Spoon the surprise into the cocktail. It should now float ominously in the water like the body of little Jason Voorhees!

Signature Beer

Pink Tide – Raspberry Hibiscus Ale, 4.7% ABV

Crystal Lake Brewing Company in Crystal Lake Illinois

Pink Tide is a refreshing, easy drinking ale turned up a notch with the addition of raspberries and hibiscus flowers, which infuse a great grapefruit pink color to the beer. Malt, hops, berries and hibiscus are an ensemble cast here, with each element playing it’s role. We think the actors come together with amazing results. It’s simply delicious!

Signature Wine

Andrea suggested that we all give Crystal Lake Wines by Adrienne King a try.

And bonus! Here’s a photo of guest host Andrea with Adrienne King herself!
