Escape From New York: the Most Excellent 80’s Movies Podcast

This time on the Most Excellent 80’s Movies Podcast we watched John Carpenter’s Escape From New York from 1981! It’s the podcast where a Filmmaker and a Comedian get airlifted into the chaos of the 80’s movies you love, hate, hate to love or love to hate… to save the President, possibly? And definitely to avoid getting our heads exploded.

1981: Escape from New York

Summary by Nathan: The year is … the future. Crime is out of control and the island of Manhattan has become a maximum security prison, which seemed like a good idea at the time, until Air Force One crashes with the President of the United States inside.

Now, the world’s greatest leader is a hostage in the most dangerous place on Earth, and only the deadliest man alive, Snake Plissken, can save him.

Our Most Excellent Mission

The mission of the Most Excellent 80s Movie Podcast is to take a comedic look back at the movies from a decade we both love with 2018 eyes and probably a significant haze of nostalgia.

Your Most Excellent Hosts are going to do 10 episodes this season, each representing a film we have chosen from the corresponding year from 1980- 1989. This is E02 representing 1981.

Deep Cut Recommendations

As we all know, IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes and awesome places like that will always give you some recommendations… People who liked THIS also liked THIS. Your Most Excellent Hosts have their own recommendations, perhaps a bit further off the beaten track.

Nathan thinks you should check out: The Music of John Carpenter and Lockout, the 2012 Guy Pearce movie that is, basically, Escape from New York.

Krissy thinks you would like: Overboard, the 1987 Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn movie and Pod Save America a podcast by Crooked Media.

Whats Up Next?

At the end of each episode your Most Excellent Hosts reveal what the next movie selection is! Or… you can read about it here!

1982: E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. IMDB says… A troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home world.
