Geek [Supplies] – Phoenix Comicon

Welcome to a special edition of Geek [Supplies] – where geeks help geeks get prepared for the best Con in Phoenix!

Nerd Soaps!

I am a die hard fan of Strawberry Hedgehog bath and body products (you might have smelled their soaps at Whole Foods stores around Arizona), so I was super excited to hear that they were offering a line of Phoenix Comicon Exclusive soaps that are so delicious, they might even tempt PHXCC guest Kelly LeBrock to shower with you. We know you’re not going to be able to choose between the Star Wars set, the Doctor Who set, or even the Fruity Oaty Bars, so Strawberry Hedgehog is offering a fantastic 15% discount on all products (except soap club memberships) if you enter the coupon code EDUCATINGGEEKS at checkout.

Batman water bottles

If you are a regular reader of Geek [Supplies], you’ll know that I frequently point out that Phoenix is in the middle of a freakin’ desert. This year, Phoenix Comicon is in June. They are blocking off 3rd Street all weekend for outdoor events and spreading out between several hotels and all 3 Phoenix Convention Center buildings. You guys are going to be doing a lot of walking and will need to drink A LOT A LOT A LOT of water. The Phoenix Convention Center has many water coolers scattered throughout each floor, so why not bring some reusable Batman water bottles to fill up? Available in sets of one, two, or three, they collapse flat when they’re empty and come with a handy carabiner so you don’t accidentally leave them behind in the room when you go see the Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar panel.

Batgirl Whoom panties

Last year, John Barrowman showed us his Batman undies. He’ll be back this year, so why not get your very own Batgirl undies to show to him? Get them autographed by special guests Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar from the classic Batman TV series before heading over for a photo op with Captain Jack himself. Trust me when I say that John Barrowman will be TOTALLY okay with taking a photo with you in your underwear. It would be a pretty tame compared to some of the ones he did last year.

You have failed this kitty

I totally squeed when John Barrowman’s handsome Arrow costar Stephen Amell was announced as a guest for this year.  Geek host Alice enjoyed seeing him at Emerald City Comicon, and he is utterly delightful on social media. What better way to show him how much I love him on Arrow (and also how much I love cats) than by wearing this hoodie? As with most RedBubble products, you can also get this design on a shirt, but I much prefer a hoodie so I can dress up as my own version of a hooded vigilante (cat lady). Plus, it gets pretty cold inside the convention center.

Power Rangers Dress

You guys know that 3 members of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are going to be at Phoenix Comicon this year, right? This tunic tank (available in all 7 colors) would definitely be a hit at the spotlight panel with Walter Jones, David Yost, and Austin St. John, at their autograph booths, or especially in a joint photo op with all 3 actors.

Iocane glass

Yes, I know that Cary Elwes has done a lot of stuff since 1987 (including voice work for Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Cosmos reboot!), but he’ll always be Westley from The Princess Bride to me. I may bring one of these Iocane Powder glasses to have him autograph. I wonder if I could use an etching kit over the sharpie to make sure the autograph doesn’t wash off in the dishwasher.

Charlaine Harris

True Blood comes back for its final season in June just in time to follow Charlaine Harris‘s appearance at Phoenix Comicon. Dead Until Dark is the first Sookie Stackhouse novel and a great place to start if you’d like to familiarize yourself with the books on which the True Blood TV series is based. Charlaine will be here all weekend and participating in several panels that every aspiring writer should make time for. And reading is a great way to spend your time if you’re waiting in line for a big panel, autographs, or photo ops.

Miscellaneous essentials

Marvel bandages

There will be first aid stations and personnel around in case of emergency, but sometimes all you need is a bandage. It’s always a good idea to carry bandages with you, but it is an especially good idea to have Marvel Heroes bandages with you at Phoenix Comicon so that you can have Stan Lee sign your boo boo to make it better.

Tip number fourIt may be hotter than hades outside but it will be colder than Hoth inside. Have a jacket/sweater handy.
